Week 5- Amy


I’ve been continuing my work in Photoshop to create the basic assets that will be used in the Vertical Slice. This week me and TJ split the main art assets up, I did the Background of our game and I created the base asteroid, TJ is doing UI, i.e. health bar, score bar. With my two pieces finished we are progressing steadily to what we want to show in our Vertical Slice, if the assets are clean people will be able to clearly see what our game is about and what the art direction is.

Over this week the group have discussed what could be our “uniqueness factor”, we want our game to stand out from other asteroid shooters. So, we came to an idea where over the progression of the game the asteroids start to take a cosmic horror change, and things start getting weirder and weirder! We aren’t focusing on it for the Vertical Slice but the discussion was a necessary shift on our vision of the game. So, I drew some concepts of what changes the asteroids could take over the course of the game.

Some design issues I’ve encountered is making sure that the foreground does not blend in with the background, the asteroid has to look shootable and stand out. So, just with my work it takes a bit of tweaking, I’m also aware that the asset I’ve made now could be different from when the game is finished because art direction could change for anything we add in the future.
